Special Education

The Teach Well program, our online Master of Education (M.Ed.) program, consists of coursework that provides a well-rounded program of study for anyone currently teaching students with disabilities or other learning differences and for individuals entering the field of special education from disciplines other than education.  Our purpose in developing Teach Well is to provide a vehicle through which you can obtain the knowledge and skills you need to be an effective educator for all students—particularly those with special needs.

As a Teach Well participant, you will be involved in opportunities to interact with your classmates through online discussions, learn and apply effective teaching strategies, and reflect upon your teaching practice.  The program is applicable for teachers at elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Teach Well consists of 36 semester hours offered across two academic years.  The program of study is designed to provide participants with well-rounded preparation in special education.  There is flexibility within the program that allows for tracks of study in general special education, autism, early childhood special education, and severe disabilities for participants with interests in these areas.

If you are interested in the Teach Well program, but already have a masters degree and related professional experience, you can apply for admission to a Specialist in Education program.  Specialist programs require 36 semester hours beyond the masters degree.  Completing a specialist program also requires written and oral exit exams and completion of a project to be designed in collaboration with faculty.
