Educational Technology Master's Degree Requirements
There are two program options for students enrolled in the M.Ed. Program.
- A program designed for individuals withing K-12 or teacher education environments (i.e. classroom teachers, administrators, professional development specialists, computer coordinators, virtual school teachers, teacher educators, etc.)
- A program designed for individuals not working or desiring to work within K-12/teacher education environments (i.e. post-secondary, corporate, instructional design, faculty development, etc.)
- The primary difference between these two programs are the requirements for the 9 credits of Curriculum and Instruction as presented below.
The twelve-course, thirty-six credit Masters includes:
Prerequisite (or equivalent) for both programs
- EME 5403 Instructional Computing I (3 credits)
Students may transfer a course on technology skills and knowledge of technology's impact on teaching and learning OR submit a document outlining prior experiences and skills related to technology skills and knowledge of technology's impact on teaching and learning.
4 Core Courses in Educational Technology for both programs (12 credits)
- EME 5054 Foundations of Educational Technology
- EME 5404 Instructional Computing II
- ESE 6939 Instructional Design
- EDG 6931 Issues and Research in Ed Tech (Formerly Statistics for Educational Technologists or Research for Educational Technologists)
3 Core Courses in Curriculum and Instruction (9 credits)
For K-12/Teacher Education
- EDF 6616 Education and American Culture
- EDG 6047 Teacher Leadership and School Change
- EME 5207 Designing Technology-Rich Curricula
3 Core Courses in Curriculum and Instruction (9 credits)
For NonK-12/Teacher Education
- EDF 6616 Education and American Culture
- EDG 6931 Designing and Delivering Online Content
- EME 6458 Distance Teaching and Learning
1 Culminating Practicum for both programs (3 credits)
- EME 6945 – Practicum in Educational Media (taken at end of program)
3-4 Electives (9-12 credits) for both programs
- Number of electives dependent on prerequisite credits
