International Students

All international students seeking admission to the Graduate School are required to submit satisfactory scores on the GRE General Test and a score of at least 550 on the paper-based and 213 on the computer-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with the following exceptions:

International students whose native language is English or who have spent at least one academic year at a college or university in a country where English is the official language, excluding intensive English language programs, need not submit TOEFL scores but must submit satisfactory scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination before their applications for admission can be considered.

International students whose scores on the TOEFL or verbal portion of the GRE are not satisfactory are required to write a short essay for examination. If the skills demonstrated in the essay are not acceptable for pursuing graduate work, the examination will be used as a diagnostic tool for placement in appropriate courses that will not count toward a graduate degree.
